Katie Parent, Science
My name is Katie Parent. I am a High School Science Teacher at Lin-Wood Public School. I'm starting my 12th year of teaching at Lin-Wood. This school year I will be teaching Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. I love seeing students grow, learn new skills, and self-advocate.
My Education and Professional Background:
I hold a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. As an undergraduate, I found classes in chemistry, anatomy and physiology along with cell structure and function, microbiology, and biochemistry to be my favorites. However, the one course that was life changing was the term I spent in Ecuador for a Tropical biology course in the eastern slopes of the Andes at the Wild Sumaco lodge and field station. During this time, I did field research, visited the local school, and enjoyed the biodiversity of bird species. My graduate work has been in the area of science education. I believe that learning is a thing we do everyday through gained knowledge, observation, and experiences.
